Their mission: to provide on-site support for two key clients—the Guangxi Institute of Metrology and CRRC Zhuzhou.
The team successfully executed a comprehensive suite of services, including the installation and commissioning of Lightning Impulse Voltage Generator systems, standardized waveform verification, hands-on operational training, and emergency fault repairs. Mission in Guangxi: Commissioning and Comprehensive Training for the Metrology Institute

On July 13, a senior high-voltage test engineer departed from Wuhan for the Guangxi Institute of Metrology to oversee the two-day delivery of a new Lightning Impulse Voltage Generator system. As a provincial statutory metrology body, the institute’s new high-voltage impulse testing platform had to meet the stringent CNAS laboratory accreditation standards. Every calibration step and waveform data point required complete traceability.
Upon arrival, our engineer collaborated with the institute’s electrical testing director to develop a customized installation plan tailored to the lab's layout, grounding system, and environmental conditions. The comprehensive system—comprising a multi-stage Marx generator, intelligent control console, resistive-capacitive divider, digital oscilloscope, chopping spark gap, and high-voltage safety interlocks—was meticulously installed. Special attention was paid to high-voltage lead routing and independent low-impedance grounding to eliminate stray capacitance interference and ensure absolute safety.
Once hardware installation was complete, the team moved to waveform calibration. Rigorous no-load and load tuning tests were conducted. For the 1.2/50μs lightning wave, wave-front and wave-tail resistors were fine-tuned through multiple high-voltage cycles to ensure parameters remained strictly within national standard tolerances (wave-front time 1.2μs ±30%, half-peak time 50μs ±20%). For the 250/2500μs operational wave, charging voltages and divider ratios were precisely matched to correct waveform distortion. Multiple test runs confirmed perfect data consistency, meeting the strict accuracy requirements for legally binding calibration reports.
Following successful acceptance, a two-day specialized training program commenced. Recognizing that several operators were relatively new to impulse equipment, our engineer employed a four-tier teaching model: theoretical instruction, step-by-step demonstration, individual hands-on practice, and troubleshooting Q&A. The curriculum covered everything from generator principles and safety protocols to atmospheric correction calculations. Operators were guided through the entire process—from boot-up and polarity switching to waveform acquisition and archiving—with special emphasis on chopping tests and multi-impulse withstand voltage tests.
By the end of the deployment, all on-site personnel were fully capable of independently operating the system, tuning standard waveforms, and exporting compliant data. The institute’s project director highly commended the results, and the equipment was officially integrated into daily metrology operations, strengthening the region's high-voltage traceability infrastructure.

Emergency Response in Zhuzhou: Rapid Troubleshooting for CRRC

Without missing a beat, our engineer traveled to Zhuzhou, Hunan, arriving on July 18 to address an urgent service request at CRRC Zhuzhou. As a leading rail transit equipment manufacturer, CRRC relies on KDZD’s impulse systems for type testing on traction transformers and insulators. Any downtime directly threatens their R&D and production schedules.
Initial diagnostics revealed that while the system powered on, the control console was experiencing communication anomalies, preventing synchronized charging, triggering, and waveform acquisition. By systematically checking the power circuits, communication buses, and control logic, our engineer identified a parameter corruption issue in the communication module. After re-matching the control program and resetting the linkage parameters, the basic charging and triggering functions were restored.
However, during re-testing, a new issue emerged: the communication link between the console and the digital oscilloscope failed, halting waveform acquisition. After exhaustive troubleshooting of cables, IP configurations, and signal converters, the issue was traced to a hardware failure in the oscilloscope’s internal signal acquisition unit. With no spare parts available on-site, an immediate closed-loop repair plan was activated.
To minimize downtime, CRRC shipped the faulty oscilloscope back to KDZD’s Wuhan manufacturing facility. Our technical team expedited the disassembly, replaced the faulty acquisition chip, recalibrated the measurement precision, and conducted a full aging test to ensure factory-standard performance. We then provided remote, step-by-step guidance for the client to reinstall and recalibrate the unit on-site.
Upon reconnection, the entire system—console, generator, divider, and oscilloscope—communicated seamlessly, and data acquisition was fully restored. CRRC highly praised KDZD’s rapid response and end-to-end tracking, which successfully resolved a critical bottleneck in their testing operations.
